Neil Armstrong – Director

About me

I began surveying in 1987 as a survey assistant before attending De Havilland College, Borehamwood where I gained an ONC in Land Surveying. Since then I have gained experience of over twenty years in the survey industry, working on many large scale projects nationwide. Away from work I spend most of my time watching my son play football for his local team and I am a keen golfer playing most weekends.

Responsibilities within Terrain

Companies Health and Safety policies and training, maintaining and keeping up to date with specialist survey software packages, as well as managing and coordinating various survey teams and projects.

I continue to attend courses/seminars to increase my knowledge base both in surveying and in business and finance and improve our overall company profile and performance.

Specific industry expertise

I have particular experience in site engineering and monitoring, large measured building surveys and enjoy the challenges of difficult and testing projects.

John Lane MCInstCES – Director

About me

Having graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1996 I have worked as a land surveyor and later senior surveyor on a variety of projects mainly throughout the UK, but also in Europe and the Middle East.

When not at work I enjoy running to keep young and fit, I am a keen mountain biker regularly taking part in race events and took a trip across Iceland in early summer 2010. I am also a keen skier and have to include at least one week’s trip to the mountains per ski season.

Responsibilities within Terrain

I oversee the company’s quality management, keeping up to date with modern developments in surveying, managing and carrying out survey projects. I am also tasked with developing and marketing the extensive company services Terrain offer including laser scanning.

Specific industry expertise

I have a wealth of experience in the survey industry, particularly on large measured building survey projects and engineering surveying.

Colin Wheeldon AMInstCES – Director

About me

I started my surveying career by gaining an OND at De Havilland College, Borehamwood, back in 1983. In 1985 I then qualified with a HND in Land & Hydrographic surveying at North East London Polytechnic.

Since then I have gained valuable experience in many types of survey work, working for a variety of organizations both in the private and public sector.

I live in St Albans with my partner Leanda. In my spare time I enjoy both walking and going out on the bike, I am also a life long Spurs fan and season ticket holder, which goes down well as most of the staff are Arsenal supporters!

Responsibilities within Terrain

As finance director I have become a lot more involved in the business side of the company, and get involved in promoting and marketing Terrain, ensuring that we provide a service which will match and often surpass our competitors. I continue to attend courses/seminars to increase my knowledge base both in surveying and in business and finance.

Specific industry expertise

I am still very much involved in carrying out surveys on site as well overseeing other projects being carried out by Terrain Surveys.

I have project managed a variety of long term projects. These include providing detailed existing store plans and elevations for several Marks & Spencer stores. Also providing the London Borough of Ealing with a variety of measured surveys at 7 secondary schools in the borough as part of the ‘Building Schools for the Future scheme’
