3D laser scanning at Harpenden Memorial Hospital

Terrain Surveys go back to their roots when they use 3D laser scanning at Harpenden Memorial Hospital

Colin Wheeldon, Director of Terrain Surveys, was born at the Harpenden Memorial Hospital. So it seems only fitting that his firm completed measured building and underground surveys and 3D laser scanning at harpenden to support a major transformation project.

Terrain Surveys used the latest surveying techniques of 3D laser scanning at Harpenden to produce 3D point cloud data models of the building’s exterior, working closely with Ingleton Wood LLP Architects. Coupled with a full underground survey, this enabled accurate elevations to be created.

Alec Hunter, Architect at Ingleton Wood, said “Terrain Surveys were helpful in managing their site visits directly with hospital staff. We now have a detailed and accurate set of site plans and elevations, together with access to a 3D point cloud of the building and surrounding area should we need to refer to this in the future. I would certainly recommend Terrain Surveys to other architects for similar projects.”

Colin Wheeldon commented, “This project was particularly close to my heart as I was born at this hospital and it is great to play a part in its history again. Using the latest techniques available, my team at Terrain Surveys were able to develop plans alongside Ingleton Wood Architects for its redevelopment.”
