3D Survey Model Enables Vertical Extension
3D Survey Model by Terrain Surveys Enables Vertical Extension of Landmark Building at 2 Jamaica Road
Terrain Surveys were approached by PHD Associates to produce a 3D Survey model to help in converting 2 Jamaica Road – a landmark building, originally built in 1887, nestled between 2 taller buildings in the heart of London.
The conversion of this building into Hop Studios apartments would involve removing the existing roof and constructing an additional floor. The walls of the adjacent buildings were not vertical so to accurately measure the width of the space at every height of the new elevation, Terrain Surveys carried out a 3D laser scan. The resulting point cloud was used to produce a detailed 3D AutoCAD model.
Completed in just 3 weeks, this model accurately shows the elevation, floors and sections and has enabled PHD Associates to design a steel frame for the new floor. The 3D laser scans also captured details of exposed brickwork, ensuring PHD Associates could detail the façade refurbishment to retain and complement original features.
