Measured Surveys of a Business Park in Hook, Hampshire
Overview
Terrain Surveys were pleased to undertake this topographical survey in Hook, Hampshire, which would be used to support the planned construction of new buildings at this established business park, located to the east of Hook town centre. In addition to the topographical survey, we were instructed to deliver a comprehensive underground utility survey for our client, a London-based project management firm.
The Challenge
As this was a live construction site with demolitions underway, arrangements were made prior to our attendance to ensure that we could undertake the survey safely. As with all topographical surveys, we were to record ground levels, outlines of buildings on- and off-site, as well as site features such as fences, walls, trees and banks. We were to pay particular attention to the public footpaths including any service covers, and the position of trees located outside the site boundary were of particular importance to our client, as these could potentially affect the position of the proposed new buildings.
Upon completion of the topographical survey, our utility survey team attended site with both EML and GPR equipment. The EML equipment would enable the identification of conductive utilities, such as electric cables, metallic water mains and the service depths, while our GPR equipment would locate non-metallic services such as plastic gas mains, underground storage tanks and empty ducts. Once completed, the utility survey drawing would be overlaid on the topographical survey drawing for site context.
The Result
Working within a live construction site attracts unique challenges and we were therefore pleased to utilise our two decades’ of experience to deliver this comprehensive survey both safely and efficiently. As with all surveys, we complete all works both within budget and to our client’s schedule, which included returning to site following the completion of demolition works to complete additional survey works. The survey was delivered to the client in DWG format and in PDF copies.
