Measured Surveys of a Car Dealership, Birmingham

Overview

Terrain Surveys were pleased to be instructed by a Manchester-based architectural practice to undertake this measured building survey and topographical survey of a large vehicle dealership in Birmingham, which would remain operational throughout the survey. Our experienced team made the short journey from our Midlands office to undertake this survey in October 2023.

The Challenge

This measured building survey, which was instructed ahead of potential redevelopment of the site, comprised of both floor plans and external elevations to the dealership itself, as well as and to two smaller structures on site. For the floor plans, we were instructed to pay particular attention to all fixed equipment, fixtures and floor finishes, as well as vehicle servicing plant.

The external elevations would show features such as structural and roof features, as well as pipework and fixed services. As well as the measured building survey, we were instructed to undertake a topographical survey of this sizeable site, which would detail all boundaries, outlines of buildings both on and off site, as well as features such as levels, service covers and surface changes. Working within fully operational sites such as this attracts unique challenges, with particular care to be taken throughout the survey, owing to the high degree of both vehicular movement and customer footfall.

The Result

Our survey team were able to call upon two decades of experience in undertaking measured surveys in commercial settings to successfully deliver this survey, which was undertaken to out RICS guidelines, on time and within budget. The survey drawings were delivered in 2D DWG format, enabling our client to move to the next stage of their project with a set of highly accurate survey drawings.
