Topographical Survey, 3D Plans and Elevations on Youngsbury Estate

Terrain Surveys completed a topographical survey of the Youngsbury Estate near Wadesmill, Hertford along with a comprehensive measured survey of the main Manor House to support a restoration to the original design.

Youngsbury Estate comprises a Grade II listed manor house built in 1745, surrounded by 60 hectares of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown. Terrain Surveys were commissioned to carry out extensive measured surveys on the historic estate, in anticipation of future works.

Spending 8 days on site, the Terrain Surveys team created floor plans, elevations and sections of the Georgian building along with a topographical survey of grounds around the house.

John Lane, Director of Terrain Surveys explains, “Using 3D laser scanning technology, our team captured details of ornate features and decorations in each room. The scan data was then used to produce a series of detailed internal elevation drawings, giving the new owners a starting point for future works.”

Future plans for the Youngsbury Estate include using a landscape architect to reinstate the original Capability Brown design.

Stuart Everatt of Cowper Griffith architects, said “We worked closely with Terrain Surveys to ensure the new owners had all the information to reinstate the original design on this historic estate. They carried out all scanning works quickly and efficiently, with minimal disruption.”
