Measured Building Survey of a Commercial Building, Leicester
OVERVIEW
Terrain Surveys were pleased to undertake this measured building survey of a commercial building in Leicester city centre for our client, a leading construction firm who specialise in delivering large accommodation-based schemes. The building, which has seen many uses over the years, has been vacant for over a decade. This measured building survey, which was undertaken in 2023, saw our Midlands-based team attend site and accurately measure the building in just four days.
THE CHALLENGE
In order to support the redevelopment of this ageing city centre block, external elevations and detailed floor plans were required, and our team made the short journey from our Midlands office armed with our state-of-the-art laser scanner to accurately measure the building’s 12-storeys. All floors, from the basement to the roof, were to be drawn, with features such as fixed furniture, internal walls and ceiling changes detailed on the drawings accordingly.
As well as delivering floor plans, we were instructed to supply pointcloud data of the building. Additionally, our in-house utility survey team were tasked with undertaking a utility mapping survey. Carrying out measured surveys on projects such as live construction sites can be challenging, and we were therefore pleased to work with the site manager to ensure we delivered this survey safely and efficiently, causing minimal disruption to the various trades on-site.
THE RESULT
Terrain Surveys boasts two decades of experience supporting main contractors and architects in the regeneration of buildings, and we were therefore pleased to utilise this experience to deliver this measured survey to the highest of standards and to the agreed timescale and budget. The survey, which was delivered in 2D DWG format, as well as a pointcloud viewer file, ensures the client now holds accurate site drawings to support the next stage of the building’s redevelopment.
